What a 21st century classroom looks like.

The 21st century classroom allows you to connect, communicate, collaborate, and create like never before; due to all the technology we have. We are able to do more hands on learning with each of the students. You could use a blog for every student to participate and then have other students read their blog entries. You also could use a blog to post homework or assignments for the students. Another technology devise that is neat, is skype you are about to record your lesson and anyone in the world can watch your lesson. You can also video record your lesson and post them to your blog, so that if a student isn't in class they will still know what is going on.

I think it will physically look different. I think that it will have centers in the classroom where the students can do their work on computers rather than on paper. Also we will have smart boards where we can type right on the screen without having to write on chalk board or even dry erase boards. I think with all the technology we have, the classroom will be a lot different. You can even get the textbooks online and not physically in front of you; you would need a computer to view it.

  1. I love the idea of using Skype. Often times, parents aren't able to help their children with homework because the parents don't understand it. But by using Skype or video taping the lesson, the parents could watch it and then have a better understanding of material. This could help the parents help their children do homework assignments. It's something that is quick and easy to do, but it could help many parents and students.
I also agree that the classroom is going to physically look different. Technology is beginning to replace paper textbooks with computers or iPads; Smartboards are replacing simple overheads. Technology is really helping to take the classroom beyond the "four walls."

  2. Katelyn I like the idea of no more textbooks as in having them available on computer and not having to carry them in a backpack. I also think that Skype is a great program for communication between teacher parent and student. You are right it would be an ideal tool for a student who misses a class if they can view the lesson they missed on video and complete the assignment. Also they would be able to ask the teacher any questions they may have and get an immediate response.
The 21st century classroom will look different than what we are used to today and what we grew up with. I definitely know that my elementary classroom when I was a student was the "dark ages" compared to now, and things will continue to change to improve students' access to technology to help them learn and the teacher's ability to improve their teaching skills.
